Veteran wide receiver DeVante Parker has decided to retire from the NFL for good, just months after signing his latest contract with the Philadelphia Eagles.
The 31-year-old spent the past two seasons with the New England Patriots, recording 33 catches for 394 yards across 13 games in the 2023 campaign.
Parker cited a desire to spend more time with his family as the primary reason for his retirement, according to league insider Adam Schefter of ESPN.
"I want to see my kids, spend quality time with them. I want to be there for them whenever I can," the Louisville, Kentucky native said.
Parker added that he has no definitive short-term professional plans and that he'll simply take things slowly.
DeVante Parker's short-lived Philadelphia Eagles contract
Last March, Parker inked a one-year deal with the Eagles worth $4.69 million, fully guaranteed.
The agreement stipulated that Philadelphia would pay only $1.2 million of Parker's deal, with the Patriots covering the remainder.
Parker spent most of his career with the Miami Dolphins from 2015 to 2021 after the team selected him with the 14th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.
"I also appreciate the Dolphins for drafting me and giving me the opportunity. I always will have love for the Dolphins and their organization. And I want to thank all the teams, the Patriots and the Eagles, too. But the Dolphins were the first team, and I really want to thank them," the former Louisville Cardinals added.
