The Los Angeles Lakers are undergoing significant transformations on the sidelines for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
Head coach Darvin Ham, who led the team for two complete seasons, has been relieved of his duties.
In addition to Ham's departure, the entire coaching staff has been let go, as ESPN reporter Dave McMenamin announced.
The assistant coaches for the Lakers during the 2023-24 season were DeMarre Carroll, J. D. DuBois, Phil Handy, Chris Jent, Jordan Ott, Zach Peterson, and Schuyler Rimmer.
This decision paves the way for the purple and gold franchise to assemble a new coaching staff alongside their upcoming head coach appointment.
Ham concluded his tenure with a 90-74 record over two regular seasons, requiring participation in the play-in tournament on both occasions to secure playoff berths.
Both of his campaigns ended in eliminations from the Denver Nuggets, falling in the Western Conference Finals in 2023 and exiting in the first round in 2024.
Popular assistant Phil Handy also fired from the Lakers
Phil Handy, a highly respected figure among players, was among those dismissed by the Lakers.
The 52-year-old had been with the team since 2019, serving on both Darvin Ham and Frank Vogel's staff.
This marked his second tenure with the Lakers, having worked as a player development coach under Mike Brown from 2011 to 2013.
He was also an assistant coach for the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2013 to 2018, where he worked with LeBron James and won the 2016 NBA Championship.
Handy spent the 2018-19 season with the Toronto Raptors, winning another NBA championship that season before joining the Lakers.
