Japanese superstar Shohei Ohtani did not miss the Los Angeles Dodgers game against the Arizona Diamondbacks because of his struggle.

This is what manager Dave Roberts is insisting after some fans were led to believe that the 2023 American League MVP's absence in 8-0 win against the Arizona Diamondbacks was because of his struggles in recent games.

It was the first time Ohtani was not featured in a game this season, but fans don't have to worry about him.

Roberts explained that he gave his superstar a "routine day off" mainly for his benefit.

"I think that he understands that it's a long season, so there wasn't any back and forth," he said when asked about Ohtani.

"I think he understands that it's probably for his own benefit."

The manager also expressed his firm belief that Ohtani will eventually return to his footing despite not being as sharp in the past games.

"I think that hitters want to hit. Shohei is as aggressive as those bees were last night," Roberts said.

"They want to hit in big spots. Certainly, he feels like he's the best option to drive in a run."

Shohei Ohtani, wife, make red carpet debut

Ohtani took advantage of the routine day off as he was spotted with his wife in a rare public appearance.

The Dodgers star shocked the world last February after he announced that he got married to fellow Japanese Mamiko.

He said the secrecy was his way of protecting their relationship.

The couple is starting to navigate public life as they are very expressive about their relationship.

Their latest event together was the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation's 2024 Blue Diamond Gala held at the team's stadium.

They were willing to pose for the camera and mingle with other members of the team and attendees.
