Phoenix Suns President of Basketball Operations and General Manager James Jones has ambitious plans, particularly the use of star Kevin Durant, as the team aims to bounce back strongly next season.

Jones told reporters during a press conference on Wednesday, May 1, that the team is focused on maximizing Durant's talents, emphasizing that no one has done it quite like they plan to.

"A constant focus for us is to continue how to figure out and maximize Kevin Durant. No one has done it yet. I believe we'll be the first team to do it. Because if we maximize him, we maximize our entire roster, and we're a better team," the 43-year-old executive told the media.

Jones also believed that Durant had some of the best stretches of his career during his first full season in Phoenix after arriving via a trade in February 2023.

Meanwhile, "The Point Forward" podcast, co-hosted by Durant's former teammate Andre Iguodala, appeared to respond to Jones' comments by posting a photo of Durant during his time with the Golden State Warriors on social media, implying that the Bay Area team has already maximized his skills before.

Irony behind James Jones' claims on Kevin Durant

Contrary to Jones' plans, Durant was reportedly uncomfortable with his role in the team's offense throughout the season.

The 35-year-old expressed concerns with the offensive gameplans, mainly his dissatisfaction with being frequently stationed in the corner.

Additionally, the two-time NBA Finals MVP felt that their plays didn't leverage his strengths, as the offense heavily relied on pick-and-rolls, per The Athletic.
