Now being close to a month of baseball action, both New York teams, Yankees and Mets, are starting to find themselves amongst this year's MLB landscape.

The Yankees sit atop the AL East, while the Mets are battling through a tough schedule and a mixed bag of lineup changes early in the season.

Here's a check-in to see how New York's finest are doing early in the 2024 MLB season.

Yankees Aaron Judge Back to Form

Aaron Judge crushed a home run in the Yankee's 15-5 win over the Milwaukee Brewers.

It was an incredible sight for fans, as Judge had been struggling so far this season.

The center fielder came into Sunday's game batting a .2111 average with 4 home runs and 18 RBIs, not the usual for someone who is tied with Sammy Sosa for the most home runs in a season since 1999.

But, the Yankees do seem optimistic about turning their season around after a slow start.

"It's not back yet. It's always a work in progress," Judge said, as per Jorge Castillo of ESPN. "It's a long season. I've had seasons where I start worse than this in my career."

"I've had seasons where you start hot, and then you always hit a rough patch where you hit about .150 in a month. You have to keep working and improving, and we'll get out of it. ... I'm still Aaron Judge. I don't think that's changed," the star center fielder added.

For the Yankees, Aaron Judge's performance is pivotal; if he can turn it on, there is reason to believe this club will be playing for a World Series come October.

The Evil Empire is on Fire

Despite Judge's slow start to the season, the Yankees currently find themselves in a good spot.

They managed to defeat an excellent Brewers squad in their last matchup and are taking care of business early in the season.

The Yanks will have their first test of the season when they head to Camden Yards to take on their division rival Baltimore Orioles, who are right behind them in AL East supremacy with a record of 17-10; the Orioles having put together one of the best young rosters in baseball.

"We know they're a perfect club, but it's just part of the long season," Yankees manager Aaron Boone said about the Orioles to the New York Post.

"You know that's a team-especially going to their place-if you're going to beat them, you gotta play really well. I don't get too much into barometers and messages, especially this time of year. It's about trying to stack together consistent performances," Boone added.

Mets Tough Luck and Schedule

The New York Mets somehow found themselves a game over .500 after an especially slow start to the season, sitting at 14-13 ahead of their series against the Cubs.

The Mets have seen some of the best in the league so far. They've played series against the Dodgers, Brewers, Braves, and Royals; having managed to come away with wins against each team.

Their schedule will only get tougher within the next month as the Mets are scheduled to face divisional rivals Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies along with teams like the Cleveland Guardians, San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Arizona Diamondbacks.

Standout New York Mets Pitcher Luis Severino

Mets pitcher Luis Severino is currently rolling.

In 27.0 innings over five starts, Severino has a 2.67 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and has allowed only two home runs so far this season.

Luis Severino has come through big time for the Mets early and has proven to be a highlight player amongst their pitchers.

Severino has looked good in every start with the Mets and seems to be setting himself up for a dominant season in Queens after making some significant changes to his throws and better health.

Changes to his throws came during the offseason, particularly to stop tipping pitches, and he has evaded injury so far, unlike his time with the Yankees last year.
