The Detroit Pistons are poised to undergo significant changes in their front office following a tumultuous 2023-24 season.

The team endured its worst season in franchise history, finishing with a dismal record of 14-68. Additionally, the Pistons set an NBA record for the longest losing streak in a single season, dropping 28 consecutive games.

General manager Troy Weaver is expected to retain his position for the upcoming season despite these challenges, according to league insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The 56-year-old executive has served as the team's general manager since 2020 and has overseen key moments such as drafting prospects like Cade Cunningham, Jaden Ivey, and Ausar Thompson.

However, the team will be embarking on a search for a new President of Basketball Operations, a position that has remained vacant on the team since 2018.

The Pistons will begin their search process this week, per league insider Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.

The difference between team president and general manager in the NBA

The distinction between the President of Basketball Operations and General Manager can vary from franchise to franchise.

Typically, the President of Basketball Operations holds a higher-ranking position and oversees multiple departments within the organization, including personnel, coaching staff, and overall team strategy.

On the other hand, the General Manager tends to be more focused on day-to-day roster decisions, player transactions, and scouting.

While some NBA teams have one person serving in both positions, others choose to separate the roles.
