"He is back!"

"2024 NL MVP!"

Milwaukee Brewers fans are back on Christian Yelich's hype train as the left fielder is off to a great start for the 2024 season.

Unfortunately, the train has to be brought to the rail yard after the 2018 National League MVP was forced out of the game against the Baltimore Orioles last Sunday.

The 32-year-old star left in the second inning, according to the Brewers, because of lower back discomfort.

Brewers won the game but lost the next one of the series.

They are currently at the top of the National League West and are facing division rivals San Diego Padres in a three-game series.

Christian Yelich injury may not be severe

Fans are worried about Yelich's injury, as they finally have him healthy and at the top of his game. The two-time All-Star has a history of back problems that kept him out for a significant amount of time.

He has taken his game to the next level after transitioning into a designated hitter this season. The transition is meant to lower the risk of more back problems.

He is hitting .333/.422/.744 with five homers in his first 11 games.

Yelich shared that he already felt something was wrong before being officially removed.

"I felt like I was right on the verge of [really hurting it] while running [the bases] in the first," he said.

"Then playing defense the next inning, running on and off the field, every step it was grabbing. Hopefully we got in front of it, and we'll see in the next few days if it bounces back. Obviously, hoping for the best."

His anxiety over this injury scare is apparent as he told reporters that he should have made a better judgment before it got worse.

He later said the current injury does not feel as bad as before and remains hopeful.

That seems to be the feeling, too, in the organization.

The Milwaukee Brewers have not put Yelich on the injured list, which typically keeps a player out for 10 to 15 days. The player can miss up to 60 days if the injury is severe.

He was held out for a series against the San Diego Padres.

The Milwaukee Sentinel reported that the team is still monitoring his health and availability before deciding on the IL.

"We're happy he's not feeling worse," manager Pat Murphy said.

"Maybe there's a possibility he doesn't have to go on the IL. I think we'll know soon."

Emergency call-up for Joey Wiemer

The team called up Joey Wiemer while Yelich was dealing with an injury.

Wiemer, a fourth-round draft pick by the Brewers in 2020, almost made it to the majors last year.

He recorded a batting of .220 with a .328 OBP and .360 slugging percentage for Triple-A Nashville Sounds last season.

As a hitter, he recorded .256/.336/.465 with 21 home runs, 77 runs batted in, and 31 stolen bases.

He has been impressive this season and hopes it will carry over to the majors.
