The Boston Celtics are rewarding point guard Jrue Holiday with a hefty payday following his outstanding performance this season.
Holiday and the team have agreed to a four-year contract extension worth $135 million, according to league insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
The two-time NBA All-Star is opting out of his $37.3 million player option from his current contract for the 2024-2025 season to sign a long-term deal that will keep him with the team until the 2027-2028 season.
Holiday had a tumultuous offseason, being traded by the Milwaukee Bucks to the Portland Trail Blazers as part of the Damian Lillard blockbuster trade during the summer.
A few days later, the Celtics struck a deal to acquire the five-time All-Defensive Team member guard.
The extension saves the Celtics several million dollars on the cap next year and contributes to keeping together their talented core that clinched the best record in the 2023-24 NBA regular season.

Holiday will join an exclusive group of players by signing a fully guaranteed deal worth more than $100 million at age 33 or older, joining stars LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and his teammate Al Horford.
The three-time NBA Teammate of the Year award winner has averaged 12.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.9 assists in 68 games this season.
These numbers represent a slight drop from his previous season with the Bucks, but it's understandable given the star-laden lineup of the Celtics.
