Following a slow start to their MLB 2024 season, the New York Mets managed to finally get their first win of the year during their series against the Detroit Tigers.
The Mets picked up a 2-1 victory after eight innings of scoring no runs. They scored those two runs late in the bottom of the 9th with a Pete Alonso home run and a Tyrone Taylor walk-off hit.
New York stands at 1-5, leaving the Miami Marlins as the only winless team in the MLB left.
The Mets will now prepare to take on the young upstart Cincinnati Reds, headlined by Elly De La Cruz and Hunter Greene; two of the MLB's best young players.

New York Mets: Batting Issue on Display
The early season issues for the New York Mets have come on offense as three of their most impactful players are off to a slow start. Brandon Nimmo, Francisco Lindor, and Jeff McNeil are all struggling on the plate.
Nimmo is 1-for-21
Lindor is 1-for-24
McNeil is 1-for-15
That's a combined 3-for-60
Typically, this slow of a start will only last for a brief moment, as players need to find their footing in a long MLB season. However, this is somewhat of a discouraging sign for the Mets being that these are three of the team's best hitters.
Lindor and McNeil have already moved down the lineup due to their poor initial performance at the plate.
Hopefully, they will find some rhythm as the season goes on.
New York Mets: Health is a Concern
Pitching has been a significant concern for the New York Mets this season as injuries have sidelined two of their key hurlers. The Mets are currently without two of their best pitchers in Tylor Megill, missing some time due to a shoulder injury, and Kodai Senga, who has also been out due to a moderate right posterior capsule strain.
The Mets went out to sign Julio Teheran to a one-year 2.5 million dollar deal. The veteran has found success throughout his career, highlighting his time with the Braves. Teheran recently failed to crack the Orioles roster and went to the minor leagues where he pitched to a 3.38 ERA in 13 ⅓ innings with the Grapefruit League. He should be a crucial piece in the Mets pitching rotation as the season goes on.
Luis Severino has been off to a slow start as well. In striking six out and not walking anyone are signs that Severino was perhaps not as far off as his line would indicate.
