Caroline Wozniacki offered a candid viewpoint on her on-court rival Simona Halep's situation following the latter's return from a doping ban.
The 33-year-old expressed her longstanding stance against doping, emphasizing her desire for a "clean sport" that ensures fairness for all athletes.
"Again, this is not directly at Simona, but if someone purposely cheats, if someone has tested positive for doping... I understand why a tournament wants a big star in the tournament, but it's my personal belief, and it's not a knock on anyone, but it's my personal belief that I don't think people should be awarded wild cards afterwards," the Danish player said.
Wozniacki added that if an athlete wishes to make a comeback after a doping incident, she believes they should start from scratch and work their way up from the bottom.
The Danish player made her remarks after securing a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Clara Burel at the Miami Open on Tuesday, March 19, held at the Hard Rock Stadium.

Simona Halep ban significantly reduced
Halep faced charges twice from the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), one of which involved using the prohibited substance Roxadustat at the 2022 U.S. Open.
Initially, she received a four-year doping suspension, but following an appeal upheld, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) reduced her ban to nine months.
The 32-year-old Romanian made her comeback during the Miami Open against Paula Badosa on Tuesday, but she endured a 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 loss in the first round.
