McLaren F1 did look pretty good in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix but is still quite a bit well off the pace to be competing with Ferrari, let alone Red Bull. As it seems McLaren's fight is with Mercedes for third place in the constructors, given upgrades go as planned and they don't see themselves fall down the grid.

Another interesting storyline to develop from the most previous race is the fight for driver supremacy within McLaren. The British F1 team made their intentions clear after extending Lando Norris' contract just before the season started, but the young Oscar Piastri is giving the veteran driver a run for his money; as currently the Australian is leading the Englishman in the drivers standings. We know it is only two races into the 2024 F1 season, but this will be an interesting battle to watch as Red Bull continue to run away with the Championship.

McLaren Still Lack Pace but Show Some Positive Signs

Whether it be the lack of pace from the MCL38 or impatience of Oscar Piastri, but Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton was able to fend off the Australian mightily until he eventually had to give up position heading into the pits.

Norris and Hamilton's race results did suffer from the same wrong pit strategy, but we could see in this fight that Hamilton still has some left in the tank; and that Piastri is still a relatively inexperienced F1 driver, as he failed to overtake Hamilton on old tires due to lack of patience and timing.

McLaren F1 looks to be lacking in some power similar to Mercedes, as both teams will likely be battling it out for third place in the 2024 constructors standings.
