The San Francisco Giants have successfully secured the services of reigning NL Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell on a two-year contract worth $62 million.

The 31-year-old was the most sought-after pitcher on the market, and this decision ended a lengthy free agency period just ten days before the 2024 MLB regular season.

The deal also includes an opt-out clause after the first season, according to league insider Jeff Passan of ESPN. The agreement is still subject to a successful physical examination, hence the lack of official announcement.

Snell is coming off a sensational season with the San Diego Padres in 2023, during which he boasted a record of 14-9, an ERA of 2.25, and 234 strikeouts in 32 appearances.

In addition to securing his second Cy Young Award, he was also named to the All-MLB First Team and led the National League in ERA with 2.25.

Blake Snell reunites with Bob Melvin

Snell is poised to continue playing under new Giants manager Bob Melvin, who previously managed the Padres for the past two seasons in 2022 and 2023.

Melvin previously encouraged the pitcher to select the best destination for him rather than making a pitch for him to join the Giants, but it appears that Snell wants to reunite with the esteemed tactician.

Initially, the Giants were not in the race to sign Snell, but they eventually emerged as the victors in the stakes.
