Saints: Chase Young's 2 Major Reasons for Joining New Orleans in Free Agency

Free agent defensive end Chase Young has opted to ink a one-year contract with the New Orleans Saints valued at $13 million, which is fully guaranteed money, as reported by multiple prominent NFL sources.

Reportedly, the 24-year-old had two primary motivations for joining New Orleans, per league insider Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

First, entering free agency, he aimed to secure a deal to provide financial stability for his future. Additionally, he expressed a desire to team up with veteran defensive end Cam Jordan.

Jordan, a distinguished member of the NFL's 2010 All-Decade Team, has remained with the Saints throughout his career, starting in 2011.

The 34-year-old boasts an impressive resume, being an eight-time Pro Bowl selection, a three-time All-Pro selection, and holds the record of the Saints' all-time franchise sack leader.

Chase Young played for two teams in 2023

This decision follows Young's campaign split last season between the Washington Commanders and the Super Bowl runner-ups, the San Francisco 49ers.

In the 2023 season, Young played in 16 regular-season games, appearing in the initial nine matches with the Commanders and the subsequent seven with the Niners.

At the trade deadline, the 49ers acquired Young, enhancing their edge rushing capabilities by sending a 2024 special compensatory third-round draft pick to Washington.

The former Ohio State player concluded the 2023 season with 17 solo tackles, eight assists, and 7.5 sacks.
