Inter Miami star Lionel Messi is grappling with a concerning injury following their second-leg clash against Nashville SC in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, held on Wednesday, March 13, at the Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The 36-year-old departed the match in the 49th minute, being substituted by midfielder Robert Taylor. Messi had previously scored a goal in the 22nd minute of the match.

"He is overloaded in the right posterior [hamstring]. We don't want to run a risk. We tried to see if he could go further along (in the game), but it was bothering him so we preferred to have him get out of the game," Inter Miami head coach Tata Martino said in Spanish after the game through a translator.

Martino was already aware that when the season began, Messi wouldn't be able to participate in every game due to the hectic schedule of the MLS.

Inter Miami eventually secured a 3-1 victory over Nashville SC in the CONCACAF Champions Cup fixture, winning 5-3 on aggregate after the first leg ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw.

Owing to discomfort in his right posterior, the Argentine is set to miss their next MLS contest on Saturday, March 16, against DC United at the Audi Field in Washington, D.C.
