ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky, a former NFL quarterback with 12 seasons of experience, had an unexpected selection for the first overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Orlovsky made a cameo appearance on the latest episode of the Pat McAfee Show on Thursday, March 7. During the show, the sports host called him on FaceTime to inquire about his opinion on the sensible choice for the top pick in the draft.
"I would take Jayden Daniels at number one over Caleb Williams.. I think Caleb is really good but I like what Jayden can do in the pocket and I think he's a better natural thrower," the 40-year-old said.
The consensus for the top pick in the draft points to USC Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams. However, LSU Tigers signal-caller Jayden Daniels, the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner, is still considered a top-five choice.
Dan Orlovsky previously stated that he prefers Jayden Daniels
Orlovsky's inclination towards Daniels was apparent in his earlier statements during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show this week, which sparked the call from McAfee.
"I would take Jayden No. 1. I think that three things that make it stand out for me are No. 1, I think his ball placement versus man coverage is the best in the draft. We see that in the NFL on a consistent basis; we're starting to see more and more of it," the UConn product said.
Orlovsky also highlighted how the explosive plays that Daniels executed in college are transferrable to the NFL play style and his impressive pocket presence.
