Cleveland Cavaliers star Evan Mobley is set for an extended period on the sidelines following a left ankle injury suffered during their recent 105-104 victory over the Boston Celtics on Tuesday, March 5, at home in the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.

The 22-year-old sustained a left ankle sprain with 5:29 remaining in the third quarter of the game after an awkward landing following an uncontested dunk.

Following Mobley's ankle injury, his teammate shooting guard Sam Merrill committed an intentional foul to facilitate the 2023 NBA All-Defensive First Team member's exit from the game. Subsequently, Mobley was escorted back to the locker room, leaving the arena on crutches.

An official timeline for Mobley's recovery is pending, as it depends on reducing significant swelling.

However, insiders suggest that it will be a considerable amount of time before he is back on the court, with one source indicating, "it will be some time," and another noting that he "will be out awhile."

As a result of the injury, Mobley has been officially ruled out for the Cavaliers' upcoming game on Wednesday night against the Atlanta Hawks on the road.

Evan Mobley already missed a huge chunk of the season

Mobley, who had been sidelined for six weeks from mid-December to late January following arthroscopic knee surgery, now faces another setback with his recent left ankle injury.

Throughout the current season, the 22-year-old has demonstrated his consistency, averaging 15.6 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 3.1 assists across 38 games.
