It was bound to happen - a contest that did not live up to the hype.
Usain Bolt, the world's fastest man, now can claim a victory over a machine as well. The world record holder in both the 100 and 200 meters, Bolt challenged a bus in an 80-meter "exhibition race" on Saturday in Buenos Aires that was televised in Argentina, NBCSports.com reported.
Why it was necessary to label the race an "exhibition" was not immediately clear.
According to NBCSports.com, Bolt was expecting a close race because he stretched for several minutes beforehand.
Almost as soon as the race began, Bolt realized he had stretched out for no reason. The bus required several seconds to move with any type of speed. After two steps, Bolt say that the vehicle wasn't going to come close to catching him. Soon after, he had his hands outstretched with palms up as if to say, "Why isn't the bus going any faster?"
Bolt did pick up speed momentarily but easily defeated the bus. After the race, Bolt shook the driver's hand and then posed in front of the bus, with his "To Di World" pose.
Because of the anti-climactic nature of the race, Bolt also raced three human sprinters a few minutes later with the same result.
Bolt, who has six Olympic medals, has record a world record time of 9.58 seconds in the 100 meters and a world record time of 19.19 second in the 200 meters.
Earlier this week, two-time Olympic gold medalist Donovan Bailey told DNAIndia.com that he thought Bolt could lower those times.
"Bolt is someone I meet often, talk to and give advice to," Bailey said. "He is a good kid, he is fast and the best. But he still has the potential to improve, his stance and his start could be better.
