The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Mike Evans have reached an agreement for a two-year deal, according to NFL Adam Schefter of ESPN.
The new deal is for two years, $52 million and features $35 guaranteed.
The Buccaneers and Evans started contract negotiations early last summer, according to Tampa Bay Times reporter Rick Stroud.
Both sides have had mutual interest in getting a deal done, with Evans saying that he would discontinue contract negotiations if no deal was reached by week one.
Tampa Bay general manager Jason Licht told reporters at the NFL Combine on Feb. 27 that the team hoped to make Mike Evans "a Buc for life."
Mike Evans Back in Tampa
Evans is arguably one of the premier wide receivers in the league. He has career numbers of 762 receptions and 11,680 yards, and he has tallied ten 1,000-yard seasons on his resume.
Last season, even at the age of 30, he was still highly productive, posting 1,255 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns while helping the Bucs clinch the NFL South with a 9-8 record; helping take the team to the NFC Divisional Round, where they fell to the Detroit Lions.
Mike Evans may likely be a Buccaneer for life. He was drafted with the No.7 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft and helped the franchise win its second Super Bowl back in 2021 with Tom Brady at the helm.
Re-signing Evans could be a strong sign that the franchise will look to re-sign Baker Mayfield, who has said he hoped to continue playing with the standout wideout.
Evans was projected to be a top free agent available this year, with teams such as The Kansas City Chiefs having an interest in acquiring the dynamic receiver.
He headlined a top free agent class of receivers, including Tee Higgins, Michael Pittman, Calvin Ridley, Odell Beckham Jr. and evenMichael Thomas.
And now he continues his legacy in Tampa Bay.
