Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr devised an unconventional game plan centered around Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown in preparation for their matchup on Sunday, March 3, at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.
Kerr openly acknowledged that the team opted to give Brown more space, considering his shooting percentages of 34.8 percent from beyond the arc and an overall shooting of 50.1 percent this season.
"You try different things, you have to pick your matchups. We wanted Draymond to be able to help on drives, and make sure that we weren't giving up easy stuff in the paint," the 58-year-old mentor said after the game.
After catching wind of Kerr's remarks, Brown wrote a spirited response on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter.
The plan did not work for the Warriors, as Brown finished with a game-high 29 points on 11-of-19 shooting from the field and 5-of-10 from three-point range. The 27-year-old scored 19 in the first quarter alone.
"It was a little disrespectful to me, but it is what it is," Brown said about the strategy during the post-game press conference.
Draymond Green admits when Jaylen Brown strategy was made
Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green confessed to the timing of when they decided to implement the strategy of sagging off Brown as part of their game plan.
"We implemented our strategy like 15 minutes before we left the locker room... I thought it was fun to try. I was actually all for it, like, 'Let's try it and see if it works,'" the 2017 NBA Defensive Player of the Year said.
