Cam Newton, the 2015 N.F.L. Most Valuable Player, found himself amid a significant altercation during a 7-on-7 youth football tournament in Atlanta, Georgia. The incident, captured on footage, surfaced on Sunday, February 25.

The former Carolina Panthers player found himself fighting off a group of individuals affiliated with the T.S.P. (TopShelf Performance) team participating in the event. In an attempt to diffuse the situation, Newton was seen trying to restrain them without retaliating.

Amid the scuffle, another individual in a white shirt approached and threw a punch at Newton, making apparent contact.

Despite the confrontation, Newton managed to hold off the group until assistance arrived, including a police officer who intervened and separated several individuals from the three-time Pro Bowl selection.

Limited information is available regarding the origins of the brawl, which unfolded at the B.E.S.T. Academy 6-12 in Atlanta, according to T.M.Z. Newton's team was able to win the event despite the distraction.

Newton was in town for an event organized by his foundation, C1N, established in 2021. The foundation focuses on developing the skills of young athletes in football, offering opportunities for competition at the highest level through initiatives like 7-on-7 tournaments and other events.

Meanwhile, T.S.P. is a national program that trains receivers across various levels, including youth, high school, and N.F.L.

When did Cam Newton last played in the N.F.L.?

Newton's most recent N.F.L. appearance was in the 2021 season, where he played eight games for the Panthers.

Before that, he had a stint with the New England Patriots in the 2020 season, starting in 15 games after Tom Brady departed from the franchise. However, his time with the Patriots was generally unremarkable.

As the Heisman Trophy winner in 2010, Newton was selected by the Panthers as the first overall pick in the 2011 N.F.L. Draft. His initial tenure with the team spanned nine seasons, from 2011 to 2019. He earned the Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

Newton's career peaked in the 2015 season when he clinched the M.V.P. and Offensive Player of the Year honors.

This outstanding season contributed to the Panthers achieving a franchise-best 15-1 record, leading to their appearance in Super Bowl 50. Unfortunately, they lost to the Denver Broncos with a score of 24-10.

Newton was honored by his peers in the N.F.L. Top 100 Players of 2016, where he secured the top spot. Following his M.V.P. campaign, Newton faced challenges with injuries, and the Panthers reached the playoffs only once in the subsequent four years.

Will Cam Newton return to the N.F.L.?

Although Newton spent most of his N.F.L. career in Carolina, the former quarterback now lives in Atlanta, his birthplace and hometown, with his family.

He indicated last month that he would consider a return to the league only if he received an offer from the Atlanta Falcons.
