The Kansas Police Department is responding to a shooting at the Super Bowl Victory Parade for the Kansas City Chiefs.

The shooting took place west of Union Station in Downtown Kansas City.

Officials say eight to 10 people were injured during the incident and taken into custody, with one being severely wounded.

Over a million fans flooded the streets of Downtown Kansas City to celebrate the Chiefs' third Super Bowl in five years, but joy turned to fear as the gunshots fired.

Officials also revealed that the two armed people had been detained and are pending further investigation.

The Police say they are now working to clear Union Station itself and they will release everyone inside the building once that is complete.

Kansas City police also instruct Super Bowl parade-goers to leave the area quickly and safely, avoiding the Union Station parking garage.

"We need people to exit the area as quickly and safely as possible and avoid the parking garage in order to facilitate treatment of shooting victims," Police said.

"Many of you have footage of many officers securing the union station; they are working to provide for the safety of everyone inside the union station and expedite the care of those injured."
