NBA Trade Deadline: Thunder Acquire Gordon Hayward from Hornets

The Charlotte Hornets are sending Gordon Hayward to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Tre Mann and Davis Bertans, according to ESPN NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski.

Hayward's career started promising throughout his time in Utah, becoming an all-star during the 2016-17 season; however, he has had a hard time staying on the court, dealing with injuries in both his stops in Boston and Charlotte.

He suffered a fractured ankle during his first game as a Boston Celtics, an injury that would keep him out for the 2017-18 season as well as sprained ligaments in his left ankle that has kept him sidelined for most of the 2020-21 season.

Hayward also dealt with a left shoulder fracture and left hamstring soreness that kept him out for most of 2022-23.

He has not played in a game since December 26th due to a calf injury and his current status was upgraded to questionable on Wednesday in the Hornets game against the Raptors.

Despite dealing with injuries, Hayward remains a productive player, averaging 14.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game this season.

Now, in OKC, Hayward can be a complimentary piece next to Shai-Gilgeous Alexander and Chet Holmgren. Hayward also brings postseason experience to a young roster that has yet to play in the playoffs.

For the Hornets, they would get Tre Mann to likely see more minutes, being a solid backcourt point guard behind LaMelo Ball.

The 23-year guard is averaging 3.8 points per game so far this season.
