The Los Angeles Chargers are now beating the allegations that they are unwilling to spend for a coach by hiring Jim Harbaugh.

Some NFL analysts and reporters blame their lack of success on their hesitation to pay a head coach.

They could have gotten Sean Payton (with the Denver Broncos now) last season, but they refused to shell out cash for him.

The team is going all in for the 2024 season and beyond as they strike a deal with College Football Playoff National Championship title winner Jim Harbaugh.

The 2011 NFL Coach of the Year reportedly signed a five-year deal with the Chargers, who failed to reach the postseason, winning just five games out of 17.

Jim Harbaugh's salary and contract details remain a secret, but reports have it that he will earn more than what he was getting as a coach of the Michigan Wolverines football team.

He won the Big Ten Coach of the Year award (2022) and AP College Football Coach of the Year award (2021) in college.

He is one of the highest-paid coaches in college football, with a salary of $12.5 million per year.

The salary discussion is what stalled the negotiations between the Chargers and Harbaugh. Eventually, they get past that, and the coach's family must be smiling with the deal he received.

"A source would not discuss actual numbers but said Harbaugh would earn more than the $12.5 million per year he was reportedly offered by the University of Michigan," Outkick cited an anonymous source.

"Harbaugh, however, is getting less than the $18 million per season that was initially discussed when talks between the Chargers and Harbaugh's agent Don Yee picked up steam."

If reports are accurate that he will get over $12.5 million annually, Harbaugh will enter the Top 5 of the highest-paid NFL coaches. He will earn more than his brother, John Harbaugh ($12 million) of the Baltimore Ravens.

Bill Belichick (formerly of New England Patriots) is the highest earner with $20 million, while Sean Payton comes in second with an $18 million yearly salary.

If he lands at least $15 million, he will have more or the same salary as Pete Carroll of the Seattle Seahawks and Sean McVay of the Chargers' state rivals, the Los Angeles Rams.

His expected salary will still be more than what he was supposed to receive from Michigan.

He and the school's football program signed a $35 million contract renewal. His base salary is just $550,000, but it comes with an additional $5 million as compensation plus $2 million more as a life insurance policy.

Team owner Dean Spanos on spending for Jim Harbaugh

Chargers owner Dean Spanos hailed the signing of Harbaugh, saying, "Who has it better than us?"

"You don't build a resume like Jim's by accident, and you don't do it by yourself," President of Football Operations John Spanos said in a statement.

"You need a team. And nobody has built a team more successfully, and repeatedly, in recent history than Jim Harbaugh. His former players swear by him, and his opponents swear at him. Jim is one of one, and we couldn't be more excited to have him back in the Chargers organization as our head coach."
