The Seattle Seahawks announced that they would be moving on from Pete Carroll as their head coach, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapport and Tom Pelissero.

The Seahawks revealed that Carroll will continue to be an integral part of their franchise moving forward, shifting him to a perhaps more advisory role.

"After thoughtful meetings and careful consideration for the franchise's best interest, we have amicably agreed with Pete Carroll that his role will evolve from head coach to remain with the organization as an advisor," said in a statement released by the Seahawks team owner Jody Allen.

Allen continued, "Pete is the winningest coach in Seahawks history, brought the city its first Super Bowl title, and created a tremendous impact over the past 14 years on the field and in the community. His expertise in leadership and building a championship culture will continue to be an integral part of our organization moving forward. Pete will always be a beloved member of the Seahawks family."

This news is a shock to the NFL world, as Carroll spent 14 seasons as the head coach of the Seahawks, finishing with a record of 137-89-1 and a win in Super Bowl XLVIII.

The Seahawks also finished with a 9-8 record, missing the playoffs for the second time within the last three years.
