The Chicago Bears' 2023 ended last week, finishing with a 7-10 record, almost making it to the playoffs, which they haven't experienced since 2020.

Fans would have liked to enter the next round, but there are great things to look forward to in 2024.

Chief among them is the 2024 draft night in Detroit, Michigan, on April 25, where they will pick number one overall.

The Bears got the number one pick after the Carolina Panthers' Week 17 loss.

The best talent in the draft or the one that answers their need?

That is a question that the Bears will study until the last hours of the draft.

Bears fans have reasons to be optimistic come the following season, but the front office must first weigh the scale. What should they do with the No. 1 pick?

The problem revolves around the quarterback decision.

Caleb Williams is a talent that is hard to pass on. But they still have other positions to fill to improve the roster.

Current Bears QB Justin Fields did not have a good start to his career, but in the past weeks, he looked like someone the team could build around. He is in the last year of his rookie contract, and evaluations are more demanding and brutal.

What's in for them if they trade the No. 1 pick?

The consensus between executives is that the Bears will get more if they trade down their No. 1 pick. And that is something Bears should strongly consider.

"Those execs believe the price to get to No. 1 could be two future first-rounders on top of this year's pick, along with a variation of a Day 2 pick and/or a premium veteran player on a manageable contract," ESPN's Jeremy Fowler and Courtney Cronin wrote.

This is an inviting scenario. The advantage is that they can pick or trade for players they need for other positions, including defensive line and running back.

This means that Justin Field could stay.

Caleb Williams will probably go down as the first overall pick, as many teams in the league need great quarterbacks.

Bears could drop a few spots, and there are still good QBs left in the class. Among them are LSU's Jayden Daniels, the Heisman Trophy winner this season, JJ McCarthy, and Michael Penix Jr., who has been dazzling for the Washington Huskies.

They can also let go of Fields in this scenario. As mentioned, they can find a market for Fields willing to let go of significant draft picks. The Washington Commandeers, Las Vegas Raiders, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are among them.

Fields, who is unsure about his future, can get them a second- or third-round pick. They may also get a first-round pick as most teams are looking for quarterback stability, which Fields can provide if he's given a new surrounding.

Fields has a good relationship with coach Matt Eberflus, but it was not the 53-year-old head coach that drafted him, and their vision is not in synch right from the start.

In conclusion, the Bears can improve if they cover multiple positions in the draft. Trading down is the way to do that.
