It was only four days back when the New York Giants had humiliated the San Francisco 26-3, but the 49ers have bounced back with a bang, registering a 13-6 victory over division rivals the Seattle Seahawks in a closely fought game Thursday.

Both, the 49ers and the Seahawks, are known as defense minded teams, but on Thursday the 49ers had the better offensive game and was enough to give them the victory over their NFC West rivals.

San Francisco quarterback Alex Smith's 12-yard touchdown pass to Delanie Walker proved instrumental in San Francisco's victory. He completed 14 of 23 passes for 140 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

"We found ourselves in a real slugfest here today," Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said. "I'm not surprised it could have gone that way with two good defenses and two teams committed to running the ball."

The 49ers were trailing 6-3 at the half time but they did not lose heart and demonstrated a professional game to bounce back.

"We had a long drive in the third quarter. We just kind of felt them start to give up a little bit, and they knew we were just going to keep running the ball on them," 49ers right guard Alex Boone said. "It was more of, 'Let's get back to our roots and do what we're good at,' that's being physical, pounding the ball. Frank's (Gore) a great runner."

The 49ers are leading the NFC West, after starting Thursday's game joint top of the division with Seattle and the Arizona Cardinals,.

"That was a sweet win, that was a sweet victory right there," San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh shouted in delight to his team afterwards in their locker room. "That's the most physical 30 minutes I have ever seen you guys play right there," he added, referring to their comeback after half time. "That was beautiful."

It was last few minutes of the game when the 49ers actually played like winners. David Akers managed a 28-yard field goal and help his team to take a 13-6 lead in the match, which they never relinquished.
