After the news broke last week that the Denver Broncos will be benching quarterback Russell Wilson for the remainder of the season, many wonder what the future will hold for the Pro Bowl quarterback after his stint in Denver had blown up.
What seemed like a move to spark the club's struggling offense, the Broncos benched the star quarterback last week, leaving the door open for possibly moving on from him this offseason.
However, despite Broncos head coach Sean Payton's claims of the move being done to win games, Wilson's 37 million dollar contract would have become fully guaranteed for 2025 if he were to get injured in the Broncos Week 17 or Week 18 games.
It's been an up-and-down season for Wilson, who, despite some moments of brilliance throughout the year. Russell Wilson has ultimately failed to take the team to the next level outside of some glimpses of elite play that made the quarterback stand out in his early years in Seattle.

Broncos Russell Wilson Trade Failed in Past, Present, and Future
The Broncos slow start this season which consisted of a 70-21 beat down by the Miami Dolphins, along with inconsistency in getting the Broncos offense going. At times early, and now lately, Wilson led many to believe he will likely not suit up for the Denver Broncos next season.
Wilson had recently revealed to reporters following his benching that the team came to him in October about his benching if he didnt restructure his contract. This likely created a rift between him and the front office, making the relationship possibly hard to repair in the future.
Russell Wilson came into Denver with tons of fanfare after a successful tenure with the Seattle Seahawks. The Broncos believed that they could replicate the quarterback's success by trying to emulate the Seahawks' Super Bowl run. Now, his trade to Denver will go down in the books as one of the worst deals in NFL history.
Wilson's probability of finding a new home in the 2024 season after his two-year stint in Denver is high, as both look for a fresh start in the offseason.
The Broncos are currently 8-8 and were just eliminated from making the playoffs with one more game to play next Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders. They intend to continue to see what quarterback Jarret Stidham could do as the starter going into their season finale.
