The Detroit Pistons have found themselves on the unfavorable side of history following their defeat in the home game against the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday, December 26.

This defeat marked their 27th loss in a row, setting a new NBA record for the most consecutive losses in a single season. The Pistons' season record now stands at 2-28, clearly positioning them at the bottom of the league.

Despite their terrible situation, the Pistons can still hold onto hope, given the promising young talents within their roster. These emerging players could potentially yield positive results in the near future.

Additionally, the team has the opportunity to make a couple of moves that may enhance their performance in the short term.

3 Trades Detroit must make before deadline

1. Fix terrible roster fit.

Despite adding numerous young talents to their roster via the draft, the Pistons have faced challenges in integrating them effectively. This is primarily because many players share overlapping positions and playing styles.

Cade Cunningham, Ausar Thompson, and Jaden Ivey are three combo guards handpicked by the team in the lottery, and they are not living up to their full potential together.

With Cunningham clearly the best player among the three, while Thompson has a slight variation in his game, Ivey appears to be the odd man out, primarily due to his challenge in adapting to a secondary role.

It's suggested that Ivey could flourish on another team, allowing the Pistons to leverage him as an asset to address their specific needs.

Aside from that, the team also has redundancy in the big man position with Isaiah Stewart, James Wiseman, Marvin Bagley III, and Jalen Duren while lacking wing players on the roster.

2. Acquire a secondary option behind Cade Cunningham.

Cunningham has established himself as the bonafide main guy for this team, and he is certainly not part of the problem for the Pistons.

Nevertheless, there is a notable absence of a genuine secondary option on the team, someone who can effectively provide a scoring threat and complement Cunningham's playing style.

The Pistons could shop around the league and search for this type of player while trading some of their young talent who do not fit.

3. Trade for a veteran presence.

A crucial component for rebuilding teams is the presence of veteran leadership that will guide young players about how the league works, giving them tips and providing insights that could be useful in the long term.

For example, the Houston Rockets acquired Jeff Green, Dillon Brooks, Fred VanVleet, and Victor Oladipo this season to mentor their young core.

The three oldest players in the Pistons roster, Bojan Bogdanovic, Alec Burks, and Joe Harris, are indeed veterans, but they aren't exactly known for their leadership qualities.

The Pistons could find veteran leadership on the free agent or buyout market instead of triggering a trade.
