Baltimore Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson is among the names in the running for the wide-open Most Valuable Player award race this season.
The 26-year-old already won the award in 2019 as he ascended to become one of the league's biggest stars during that time.
Although he experienced some less stellar seasons after his MVP performance, Jackson inked the largest contract in NFL history at its signing to remain in Baltimore during the past offseason.
The lucrative deal is worth $260 million for five years, and he has proven to be worth every penny with his incredible performances this season.
Currently, the Ravens boast a commendable 11-3 win-loss record, positioning them at the top of the AFC North Division ahead of the Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
As of the latest update, they currently ride a four-game winning streak and are neck and neck with the San Francisco 49ers, with both teams sharing the best record across the entire NFL.
Jackson has a chance to make a huge leap in winning the award if they take the victory over the 49ers on their Christmas Day matchup, to be held at the Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
3 Reasons Why Lamar Jackson Should Win 2023 NFL MVP
1. The Ravens have improved massively.
The Ravens have undergone a remarkable improvement this season. Surpassing their 2022 season record of 10-7, they secured a playoff spot with a decisive 23-7 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 15 on Sunday, December 17.
In 2022, the Ravens were defeated in the Wild Card Playoffs by the Cincinnati Bengals with a score of 24-17. Before that, they failed to qualify for the postseason in 2021.
2. Lamar Jackson does it all on the field.
This season, the two-time Pro Bowl selection has achieved a passer rating of 96.5, completing 266 out of 401 attempts for 3,105 yards, with 17 touchdowns and 7 interceptions in 14 games.
While the numbers aren't as stellar as the ones he posted during the 2019 season, in which he won the MVP award unanimously, Jackson is certainly a better player now than before, with improved fundamentals and IQ.
3. Raven's incredible offense.
Jackson is backed by one of the most potent offensive lineups seen during the tenure of executive vice president and general manager Eric DeCosta, who decided to bring changes to the lineup.
The front office moved to acquire star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and the highly promising first-round draft pick wide receiver Zay Flowers.
The team further boasts talents like the All-Pro tight end Mark Andrews, wide receivers Rashod Bateman and Nelson Agholor, and dynamic running backs Keaton Mitchell and Gus Edwards.
The team also brought in a new offensive coordinator in Todd Monken, who takes notes from Jackson for possible schemes that could be used during games.
