The G-League takes the spotlight this week, but for the wrong reasons. A former player by the Stockton Kings, an affiliate of the Sacramento Kings in the NBA, is facing murder charges involving the disappearance of a woman in Las Vegas.

Chance Comanche, who played one game for the Portland Trailblazers last season, was arrested by the police for first-degree kidnapping. The Las Vegas Justice Court issued the warrant of arrest.

Comanche was handed an open murder charge, and investigations are now underway.

The Stockton Kings immediately released the player after his arrest.

People involved and details of the crime

Although Comanche dominates the headline, he is not alone in the alleged crime. The player's girlfriend, Sakari Harnden, was also arrested and charged with the same crime.

According to authorities, "Based on information obtained after the arrest of Harnden and Comanche, detectives were able to recover human remains in a desert area in Henderson, Nevada."

The remains were later identified by the Clark County Coroner to be of Marayna Rodgers.

"Detectives determined that Harnden and Comanche were responsible for the murder of Rodgers. The charges for both individuals will be amended to open murder through coordination with the Clark County District Attorney's office."

What is an open murder charge?

An open murder charge is a combination of First and Second-degree murder. The two degrees have different punishments, but if it turns into an open murder, the prosecutor will only determine the appropriate degree based on the proof presented.

Chance Comanche and GF's victim?

The victim, whose remains were found in Nevada, was identified as Marayna Rodgers, 23. She was a Washington-based medical assistant visiting Las Vegas with friends.

It was Harnden who had a direct connection with Rodgers and not Comanche. The former is the victim's friend and is the subject of a criminal complaint of a first-degree kidnapping charge in connection with the disappearance of Rodgers.

According to the 8 News Now investigators, Harnden detained Rodgers with the intent of killing her or inflicting bodily harm.

Court records showed Las Vegas Justice Court Judge Diana Sullivan set Harnden's bail at $500,000.

The female suspect was previously arrested for theft, ruled to be unrelated to the kidnapping case.

Comanche, for his part, was also in Las Vegas for the Kings' game against the G-League Ignite. Judge Sullivan issued his warrant, and he is set to appear in court on Tuesday.

Comanche's career

The 27-year-old baller tried his luck in the NBA in 2017 but went undrafted. From there, he became a journeyman and played for four other semi-pro American clubs. He also played for Ankara DSİ S.K. in Turkey's Turkish Basketball League.

He eventually reached the NBA when the Portland Trail Blazers signed him in April 2023. He only played one game for the team and scored seven points in 21 minutes.

Comanche played for the University of Arizona and listed 60 games, averaging 4.9 points and eight rebounds per game.
