The Philadelphia 76ers have looked spectacular this season despite trading away star James Harden. They are currently riding a five-game winning streak and hold a 17-7 win-loss record, good for third place in the Eastern Conference and trailing only by less than two games behind the leaders Boston Celtics (18-5).
The Sixers received Marcus Morris Sr., Nicolas Batum, Robert Covington, KJ Martin, and a bunch of draft picks for Harden, and these acquisitions are paying off for them.
However, if they want to get over the hump and become true contenders for the 2024 NBA Championship, they may need to pull the trigger on some trade proposals that would significantly enhance their firepower behind reigning NBA Most Valuable Player Joel Embiid and rising star Tyrese Maxey.

3 Trades Philly Must Make to Compete for the 2023-24 NBA Championship
1. Lauri Markkanen
Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen has been sensational since he arrived in Salt Lake City last season. He was able to make his first-ever NBA All-Star Game appearance earlier this year, and he also claimed the 2023 NBA Most Improved Player award.
Sources indicate that at least a couple of teams are considering making a move for Markkanen. Talks are expected to commence as early as next week's G League Winter Showcase in Las Vegas, and the Utah Jazz are reportedly open to entertaining offers.
The seven-foot Finnish player is currently on a relatively affordable contract, earning $17,259,999 for this season and $18,044,544 in 2024-25, which marks the final year of his existing deal.
The Sixers should make a run for Markkanen despite the expected steep price, as he does not need an offense catered to him, making him the perfect complimentary piece for Embiid.
2. Bogdan Bogdanović
The Serbian sharpshooter could serve as a valuable addition for Philadelphia. His adept sharpshooting skills have the potential to open up the floor, creating opportunities for him to receive touches off Tyrese Maxey's playmaking and Joel Embiid's kick-outs.
Moreover, acquiring the 6-foot-5 guard from the Atlanta Hawks might demand fewer assets than some prominent names in the trade market.
3. Josh Giddey
Amidst a current controversy, the timing might be good for the Philadelphia 76ers to consider acquiring Oklahoma City Thunder swingman Josh Giddey, especially when his value is at an all-time low.
With the Sixers needing a backup guard, Giddey's 6-foot-8 frame adds adequate size and makes him an excellent fit for his position. Additionally, his exceptional passing skills could contribute valuable playmaking to the team.
Giddey is only 21 years old, and if the Sixers were to acquire him, he would need to step up his game immensely to help in their win-now situation.
