The Toronto Blue Jays are in a precarious situation, losing out on two big names that could have significantly boosted their next MLB campaign.

Falling short of their pursuit of Shohei Ohtani and Juan Soto, the Blue Jays options have dramatically dwindled. Ohtani chose the Dodgers, while Soto is now with the New York Yankees.

Among the available free agents, Cody Bellinger could be the best player to fill in their void, per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

If not Bellinger, the Blue Jays may want to take a second look at Matt Chapman. He was acquired via trade from the Oakland Athletics on March 16, 2022, and is currently a free agent.

Although he may not be the best batter the Blue Jays are looking for, he makes up for it with his glove.

Blue Jays need to act fast

With the prominent names dwindling, the Blue Jays need to act fast. It may only be a matter of time before Bellinger gets a good offer from other MLB teams.

With regards to Chapman, Toronto needs to be aware that a team is interested in the 4-time Golden Glove Award winner.

The Chicago Cubs are reportedly a team eying the 30-year-old third baseman, per Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

Did the Blue Jays make their lives tougher

The Blue Jays sparked the Ohtani rumors when word got out that the Japanese player was on a private plane headed for Toronto.

However, this was later branded as false, with Jon Morossi of the MLB Network apologizing for it.
