Oregon Ducks quarterback Bo Nix has positioned himself as one of the finalists in contention for the 2023 Heisman Trophy.

The 23-year-old senior shares this distinguished recognition with other standout quarterbacks, including Michael Penix Jr. from the Washington Huskies, Jayden Daniels representing the LSU Tigers, and wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. of the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Nix spent the first three seasons of his college football career with the Auburn Tigers, following the footsteps of his father Patrick Nix who also played quarterback for the school from 1992 to 1995.

Before the start of the 2022 season, Nix transferred to the University of Oregon, utilizing the NCAA-wide COVID-19 eligibility waiver for the 2020 season.

He attributed the decision to escape the daunting legacy of his father at Auburn, allowing him to make a name for himself and expand his game.

This move granted him two additional seasons of eligibility to contribute to the Oregon Ducks, and during this time, he assumed the role of team captain for both the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

3 reasons Bo Nix can win the Heisman trophy:

1. Bo Nix led the country in many categories in 2023

Nix has showcased exceptional performance this season, leading the country with a completion percentage of 77.2% and sharing the top spot alongside fellow Heisman finalist Jayden Daniels for passing touchdowns with 40.

The 2023 First Team All-Pac 12 selection holds the second position in passing efficiency (186.25), passing yards (4,145), passing yards per game (318.85), and total touchdowns (46). Additionally, he ranks third in total yards per game, totaling 336.4.

Nix's remarkable completion percentage of 77.2 percent (336-of-435) positions him close to breaking the NCAA single-season record of 77.4 percent, established by former Alabama quarterback Mac Jones in 2020.

This record-breaking opportunity awaits the 2023 Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year when Oregon faces Liberty on January 1 at the Fiesta Bowl, to be held at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

Furthermore, his 336 completions not only lead the nation but also stand as the highest in the history of a single season for the University of Oregon.

2. Bo Nix has deep college experience under this belt

Nix holds the distinction of being the most experienced quarterback in NCAA history, having amassed an impressive 60 career starts.

Aside from the Heisman Trophy, Nix is also a finalist for the Maxwell Award and the Dave O'Brien National Quarterback Award.

His outstanding contributions this year have already been recognized with the title of Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year, and the William V. Campbell Trophy.

3. Bo Nix has several NCAA records

Nix has left an indelible mark across various categories in the NCAA record books.

The 2018 Alabama Mr. Football awardee ranks fourth all-time in total yards with 16,596, tied for sixth in total touchdowns with 147, seventh in completions with 1,258, seventh in passing yards with 14,989, and twenty-first in passing touchdowns with 108.

Notably, Nix achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first player in FBS history to contribute to at least 55 total touchdowns at two different schools.

This feat includes 39 passing touchdowns and 18 rushing touchdowns over three seasons at Auburn before making his transition to Oregon.
