The Los Angeles Lakers are in the NBA In-Season tournament semifinals and are singled out as one of the favorites to win the inaugural offering. One person who believes it would be foolish not to see the purple and gold win it is a former Laker, Patrick Beverley.
"You can't root against LeBron James. Imagine if Bron wins an In-Season Tournament. It's still going to be like it's not enough," Beverley, who now plays for the Philadelphia 76ers, said on the PatBev Podcast.
Durant also picks Lakers to win
Beverley was not the only one who believed the Lakers would win the inaugural In-Season tournament.
Kevin Durant is also putting his money on the Lakers. This was after James and company defeated Durant's Phoenix Suns on Tuesday, December 5.
"I'm going with the Lakers since they beat us," Durant said via Bleacher Report. "They've got the size to compete with anybody. They've got the quickest flight out of anybody. Most fans out of anybody. It's set up for them to win. I can't wait to watch it."
The Lakers have good odds of winning the In-Season tournament
While the Lakers will first have to hurdle the Pelicans, the other semifinal pairing will pit the Milwaukee Bucks against the Indiana Pacers.
Per Covers.com, the Lakers are given a +240 chance of winning it all-however, the team with better odds than the purple and gold is the Bucks at +170.
One thing that both the Lakers and the Bucks have in common is that both have yet to establish their team chemistry. Both boast a stacked roster, so it will be interesting to see who will come out on top between the two teams.
But before that, both teams must hurdle their respective foes in Las Vegas on Thursday, December 7. The Bucks face the Pelicans at 5:00 P.M. ET. The Lakers vs. Pelicans duel follows at 9:00 P.M. E.T. per NBA.com.
The In-Season tournament final will be played on Saturday, December 9.
