Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra is widely recognized as one of the best coaches in the NBA today and is considered one of the greatest of all time.

Since assuming the role in 2008, the 53-year-old coach has played a pivotal role alongside Team President Pat Riley in transforming the Heat into one of the role model organizations across all sports.

Under his guidance, the franchise has reached the NBA Finals six times, with two unexpected appearances in the last four seasons. The Heat captured the Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy in 2011-12 and 2012-13 with Spoelstra.

Spoelstra has had an extraordinary journey with the franchise, beginning as a video coordinator in 1995. After displaying a solid work ethic, he was promoted to assistant coach and advance scout in 1999.

When Riley stepped down as the Heat head coach in 2008, Spoelstra was handpicked by the "Godfather" as his successor. Spoelstra's coaching prowess has been recognized, and he was named one of the Top 15 Coaches in NBA History in 2021.

Erik Spoelstra's Wife: Nikki Sapp

Spoelstra was married to Nikki Sapp from July 22, 2016, until they publicly announced their divorce on November 29, 2023.

"We have made the difficult yet amicable decision to jointly file to formally end our marriage. We are both grateful for our relationship and remain fully committed to co-parenting our children and continuing to make them our shared priority," the couple shared in a statement to the Miami Herald.

The 36-year-old Sapp, a former Miami Heat dancer, began her tenure with the team at 18 in 2005, continuing until 2008. Aside from being a cheerleader, she previously worked as a middle school teacher.

Spoelstra and Sapp have three children: a five-year-old son named Santiago, a three-year-old son named Dante, and a one-year-old daughter named Ruby.

Although the details of how they met were not disclosed, it's presumed that the couple first crossed paths at one of the Heat's home games at the Kaseya Center.

The two were first linked in 2013 after attending a fundraiser sponsored by Heat broadcasters Eric Reid and Tony Fiorentino. They were already dating for two years during this time, according to reports.

Sapp started a podcast in 2021 called "The Know with Nikki Spo," which talks about relationships, personal growth, and lifestyle.
