The Detroit Lions host the Green Bay Packers in Week 12 action at the Ford Field on Thursday, November 23, undoubtedly the heavy favorites.
Having hosted games on Thanksgiving Day for over 50 years, the Lions normally end up underdogs against whoever they face, SI.com reported. But with an eye-popping 8-2 win-loss record, Detroit finds itself in a different role and is the favorite to win over the Packers, who are 4-6 so far this season.
However, the Lions cannot let their guard down against the Packers. After suffering a four-game losing streak early in the season, Green Bay has won two of their last three games and is showing signs of life. Their last win came at the expense of the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, 23-20.
The Lions are coming off a 31-26 win over the Chicago Bears, their second-straight win this season. Their last loss was way back on October 22, a 38-6 beatdown at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens.
Lions vs. Packers Week 12 Odds
Heading into this Thanksgiving matchup, the Lions are 7.5-point favorites to win over the Packers per BetMGM NFL odds via USA Today.
The Moneyline for this game is -375 for Detroit and +290 for Green Bay.
The Lions have won four straight games against the Packers thus far. Another win in Week 12 will make it the longest winning streak of Detroit against the Packers since winning 11 straight games from 1949 to 54.
Lions vs. Packers Week 12 Preview
Although the Lions are favored to win, they cannot afford to come out with the same performance they had with the Bears. Detroit had to rally to pull off the win and were unable to cover the spread, Fox Sports noted.
The Packers may be struggling, but such an opportunity could be crucial to the Lions if they intend to keep their winning run intact.
Unfortunately, another working problem for the Packers is that several players may either miss the game or not be 100% healthy.
Jaire Alexander, linebacker De'Vondre Campbell, receiver Dontayvion Wicks, running back A.J. Dillon, and safety Rudy Ford are listed as questionable for Green Bay. Also, tight end Josiah Deguara was listed as doubtful.
Out for this Thanksgiving matchup for the Packers are running back Aaron Jones and safety Darnell Savage.
For the Lions, only one player is listed on the injury list. Guard Jonah Jackson has been ruled out against the Packers due to a wrist injury. With Detroit having more healthy players available, they have little to no reason to lose against an undermanned Packers team.
Jared Goff is expected to lead the Lions on offense again, while Alex Anzalone will anchor Detroit's defensive crew.
On the other side, Jordan Love will have to dig deep to get the Packers' offensive running. Quay Walker will be tasked to lead the defensive efforts of Green Bay against the Lions.
Lions vs. Packers Week 12
Given the performance of the Lions and the Packers thus far, Detroit should chalk up win no. 8 with ease for as long as they play well. Facing an understaffed Packers team also tilts the odds in the Lions' favor.
Hence, only a terrible game by the Lions and a near-perfect performance by the Packers can result in a stunning reversal.
