Australia is now a six-time Cricket World Cup champion after bagging the Cricket World Cup 2023 against host nation India, 241 ¼ - 240, on Sunday, November 19, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India.

Australia's Cricket World Cup win extends its winning record to six, and it came against a partisan home crowd, CNN reported.

It was a disappointing result for India, with expectations set high, especially after dominating much of the tournament with ten consecutive wins. With the loss, India will have to wait some more to win its third title.

Australia continues to roll

For the Aussies, Travis Head was one of the main reasons for the record-setting feat. The left-handed batsman joined hands with Marnus Labuschagne to repulse an India uprising with a stand of 192.

Head was caught for 137 from 120 balls with just two runs needed, but Glenn Maxwell flogged the winning runs a ball later while Labuschagne ended 58 not out from 110, BBC.com reported.

Before the 2023 Cricket World Cup win, Australia had ruled the tournament on five occasions.

Those runs are listed below:

  1. Australia defeats New Zealand 186-3 (2015)
  2. Australia defeats Sri Lanka 281-4 (2007)
  3. Australia defeats India 359-2 (2003)
  4. Australia defeats Pakistan 133-2 (1999)
  5. Australia defeats England 253-5 (1987)

Where does this Cricket World Cup rank for Australia?

Given the past Cricket World Cup runs, the 2023 conquest appears to be the most memorable and the best.

Aside from the fact that the Aussies were able to pull it off in front of a rowdy crowd, they were underdogs heading into the game.

With India winning ten matches, Australia dug deep to defy the odds and played their best when it mattered, Reuters reported. That effort paid off, spoiling India's chances of bagging its third Cricket World Cup title.
