The Texas A&M Aggies are looking for a new head coach after dismissing Jimbo Fisher on Sunday, November 12. It was a costly move considering the school will have to pay more than $76 million in Fisher’s contract buyout.

"After very careful analysis of all the components related to Texas A&M football, I recommended to President [Mark] Welsh and then Chancellor [John] Sharp that a change in the leadership of the program was necessary in order for Aggie football to reach our full potential and they accepted my decision," Texas A&M athletic director Ross Bjork said in a statement via ESPN.

The move curiously came about after the Aggies won over Mississippi State on Saturday, November 11, 51-10. However, sources claim that this decision was already in place even before that game.

In light of Jimbo Fisher’s firing, Texas A&M is now looking for a new coach. Here are some of those being mentioned.

Dan Lanning

With the talent that the Aggies have, it would make sense to go for a coach who has successfully been able to work in such a scenario.

Dan Lanning was able to do that with the Oregon Ducks. After inheriting the reigns from Mario Cristobal, Lanning was able to take the team to the next level. Although his lack of connection to the state may be an issue, he is only 37 years old and can grow with a good staff to help the Aggies in the long term per USA Today.

Jeff Traylor

Jeff Traylor is a sensible candidate given that he has worked with deep connections. Although his name is not the one that may be abuzz, his 35-year coaching career is something that makes him a credible choice.

He has won a bunch of state titles with Texas High School, yet another reason why he would make sense for the Aggies. He is well-loved in Texas and has done well in San Antonio, racking up a 29-8 record in the past three years per The Athletic.

Mike Norvell

After leading Florida State University back into the mix for the national championships, Mike Norvell is chiefly responsible for establishing one of the best programs in the Football Bowl Division. This accomplishment will place him in the mix of high-profile openings, the Aggies included.

Norvell is also the one who cleaned up the mess left by Fisher and former coach Willie Taggart in Tallahassee. Hence, there is reason to believe he can do it again with Texas A&M.

One name that has been floated is Deion Sanders of the Colorado Statue Buffaloes. However, Coach Prime made it clear that he is not interested and prefers to address his current obligation with the Buffs in a news conference via Buffs TV.

“I want to win. I want to win a game. You think I really do sit down and think about that kind of stuff? What strikes me about that, about myself that you guys really think I sit down and say ‘Ah, yeah Stephen A.?’ Come on, I’m good,” the 56-year-old said.
