The Phoenix Suns have been unable to rise with injuries to key players such as Devin Booker and Bradley Beal to start the 2023-24 season. The latest casualty added to that list is veteran guard Eric Gordon.
The 2017 NBA Sixth Man of the Year award-winner was ruled out in the Suns game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday, November 12. The Suns ended up losing anew, 99-111, ESPN reported.
Gordon has done his share in an erratic run with the Suns. In 9 games, he has normed 13.6 points, 3 assists, and 2.2 rebounds per Basketball-Reference.
There is no question that Gordon can still thrive and step up when needed. He has done this in the past, particularly with his previous team, the Houston Rockets.
1. Gordon's game-winner against the Sixers.
In 2017, Gordon saved the Rockets from a potential loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. Anchoring a comeback with 1:39 minutes remaining, the 7th overall pick of the 2008 NBA Draft ended up being the hero of that game.
After receiving an inbound pass from James Harden, Gordon sank a three-pointer to pull the rug from under a Joel Embiid-led Sixers quintet, ESPN reported.
2. Gordon crowned Three-Point King.
Gordon showed why he is a threat from downtown, winning the 2017 Three-Point contest. He bested Kyrie Irving on All-Star Weekend that year.
But the accolades did not end there for the Indiana native. It was the same year that he won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award, capping a good year for Eric Gordon, per NBA.com.
3. Gordon's heroics for Houston against Golden State.
Gordon has been to the NBA playoffs, and the 2018 series with the Golden State Warriors is one to remember.
In Game 3 of the second-round playoffs, Gordon starred in this one when he finished with 30 points, highlighted by 7 three-pointers. Although the Rockets failed to advance, it was a game that most know of to this day, per the Bleacher Report.
4. Gordon strikes again in 2019.
It was practically déjà vu for Gordon when they faced the Warriors anew in 2019. Houston got its first win after falling behind 2-0 in the Western Conference finals.
Gordon provided the heroics in Game 3, dropping 30 points, including the critical three-pointer in overtime. The Rockets failed to get past the Warriors again. That also turned out to be the last playoff game for Gordon at the Toyota Center.
5. Gordon's 50-point game against the Jazz.
In 2020, Gordon had a game where he finished with 50 points. This was against the Utah Jazz, just two days after the death of Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant.
That scoring splurge made the veteran sniper the third Rockets player to score 40 points or more in one game. It also made Gordon only the second player to score 50 or more points, the other being James Harden, who is now with the Los Angeles Clippers.
