Alex Galchenyuk's fortunes continue to spiral with legal issues beyond the ice. The 29-year-old found himself with another problem following reports that the Royal Bank of Canada is suing him.

Galchenyuk, released by the Montreal Canadiens just weeks ago due to a drunk hit-and-run case, is facing another battle for taking out a loan worth $299,466.88 back in 2014 when he was still with the Canadiens.

"The defendant is in default under the terms and conditions of the loan in that he failed to make some payments, and the default has not been cured as of today," the bank claimed via the Montreal Gazette.

The lawsuit claimed that Galchenyuk defaulted on a $300,000 loan and is now seeking repayment with interest at an annual rate of 9.2%.

When he was still with the NHL team, Galchenyuk reportedly earned about $24,566,415.

Galchenyuk's problems continue to pile up

The latest legal problem that the third overall pick of the 2012 NHL Draft comes not long after he was arrested in July for threatening police officers after a traffic incident, USA Today reported.

A video that was nearly 40 minutes long showed the American-Belarusian hockey player drunk and telling officers different things, such as: "I will end your bloodline."

The incident led to Galchenyuk's release from the Arizona Coyotes. Days after the incident, the 6-foot-1 forward apologized for his actions.

He pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor threatening charge and had the other five charges dismissed. Unfortunately, the issue with the Royal Bank of Canada has compounded the current problems he has to deal with.

Galchenyuk takes act to SKA

After his release from the Coyotes, Galchenyuk moved to the Kontental Hockey League (KHL). He agreed to a two-year deal with SKA Saint Petersburg in August.

Aside from the Canadiens and the Coyotes, Galchenyuk also had stints with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Minnesota Wild, Ottawa Senators, Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Colorado Avalanche.

In the 654 NHL games he has played, the Wisconsin native amassed 354 points.

Galchenyuk's career started on a high with the Montreal Canadiens for the first six seasons of his NHL career. He was able to sustain that with the Coyotes, but his performance took a dip in the years after.

It was only in the 2021-22 season when Galchenyuk regained his bearings in his second coming to Arizona, collecting 21 points in 60 games. He would again maintain that performance when he joined the Colorado Avalanche in 2022.

But that run ended in December of that year after he went scoreless in four games.

After he was left in waiting for six months, Galchenyuk found himself back in Arizona on a one-year two-way contract. This lasted roughly 12 days after his run-in with the authorities last July 9, ABC 15 reported.

The latest on Galchenyuk is that he entered the NHL/NHLPA assistance program to get the needed help.

"By checking myself into the NHL / NHLPA Assistance Program, I hope to get the help I need and to ensure I never make a mistake like this again," Galchenyuk wrote in part.

With NHL teams showing no interest, Galchenyuk hopes to continue playing hockey abroad. At only 29, there is no doubt he can still compete for as long as he keeps himself in check.
