The NBA has officially revealed the court designs that home teams will use during the inaugural In-Season Tournament, and these designs differ drastically from their typical regular courts.
Featuring striking colors that deviate from the traditional wood-toned courts, the designs incorporate team colors, creating a visually captivating effect, particularly when viewed on television.
While some designs are well-received, others have received mixed reviews. Without further ado, here are the five worst NBA In-Season Tournament Courts.
1. Detroit Pistons
While the design intended for use at Little Caesars Arena is generally acceptable, the lack of the Pistons' signature blue color could confuse which team it represents, especially if it weren't for the "Detroit" wordmark prominently displayed on the center court.
The potential confusion is particularly notable due to the prevalence of NBA teams with a black and red color scheme.
2. Memphis Grizzlies
The design chosen for the FedEx Forum by the Grizzlies appears rather plain and uninspiring, especially considering the vibrant team colors at their disposal.
Their decision to opt for a plain combination of gray, brown, and gold doesn't quite make an impact and lacks the visual appeal one would expect.
3. San Antonio Spurs
Despite the Spurs' longstanding use of the Fiesta color scheme as a tribute to their early history, the design chosen for the Frost Bank Center is over the top.
The colors evoke more of a resemblance to the 1990s Vancouver Grizzlies or the Seattle SuperSonics rather than staying true to the identity of the Spurs.
4. New Orleans Pelicans
The Pelicans have incorporated the Mardi Gras colors of purple, gold, and green for the Smoothie King Center.
However, their choice of shades within these colors appears to be on the intense and overpowering side, leading to a scattered court design.
While their willingness to experiment with a bold design is commendable, this attempt has missed the mark.
5. Washington Wizards
It is not a good time to be a Washington Wizards fan.
The squad is arguably the worst team in the league right now, and to add to their woes, they'll be playing on the least appealing court design in the inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament.
The combination of gray, teal, red, and gold on the court design doesn't blend harmoniously on the playing surface of Capitol One Arena, lacking a visually striking appeal.
Furthermore, these colors fail to reflect the team's historical identity and aesthetic.
