The New York Mets will embark on a new era after a failed title bid this 2023 by hiring a new manager whose baseball CV is not that stacked.

The New York Post has confirmed that the Mets signed Carlos Mendoza to replace Buck Showalter, who was fired by the new president of Baseball Operations, David Stearn.

Mendoza will join a team that started the 2023 season as the most expensive roster but finished 75-87. They last appeared in the regular postseason in 2017, although they reached the wild card phase in 2022.

Stearn was given free rein to hire the new caretaker of the club. On October 2, he said that hiring Showalter's replacement would be a slow process.

"We're not going to rush this process," Stearns said the first few days he was hired.

"If there are candidates that emerged quickly that are really strong candidates and the right fit, that's great. And if we have to wait a little longer, I'm fine with that, too."

Who is Carlos Mendoza?

Mendoza will inherit a club with high expectations.

Many names were linked to the Mets, including Craig Counsell, Stearns' associate with Milwaukee Brewers, and former Padres manager Andy Green.

Mendoza came out on top, but what credentials earned him the prestigious job?

The 43-year-old manager used to serve as manager of the New York Yankees' affiliate Gulf Coast League Yankees in 2011.

He slowly worked his way up by becoming the Yankees' roving defensive instructor in 2012, an infield coach by 2017, and a bench coach by 2017.
