World number five American player Jessica Pegula secured a victory over Greece's Maria Sakkari in the group stages of the WTA Finals, triumphing in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2 on Thursday, November 3 at the Estadio Paradisus in Cancun, Mexico.
The 29-year-old extended her remarkable unbeaten streak in the event, achieving a flawless 3-0 record in the year-ending tournament, as well as winning all six sets she has played so far.
She also stretched her overall consecutive wins to eight matches, which also includes a title win at the Korean Open just last month.
Pegula's feat marks a significant turnaround from her performance in the same event last year, during which she went winless with a 0-3 record in the group stages.
"Getting through 3-0 is really kind of a cool accomplishment especially coming off of last year, where it was the opposite," Pegula said after the match.
Pegula's stellar run in this year's tournament includes a resounding 6-4, 6-3 win over world number one Aryna Sabalenka last Tuesday, October 31.

A tournament to forget for Maria Sakkari
Meanwhile, Sakkari crashed out of the tournament without a win, and she dropped six of the seven sets she played throughout the event.
"That's not the way I wanted my season to end. I think that physically and mentally, I was paying a toll for how much I traveled and how much I played and how emotional this season was," the 28-year-old shared.
