A David vs Goliath moment just took place in the NFL after the Denver Broncos scored a massive 24-9 win against the defending champs Kansas City Chiefs.

The Broncos came into the game as the definite underdog. The Chiefs, led by the season's best player, Patrick Mahomes, were on a five-game streak while the hosts struggled to find their groove.

Historically, the Colorado-based team does not have much luck against the Chiefs, having lost all last 16 games against their visitors before tonight.

Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson showed his wares in the game by recording 144 total yards that led to three touchdowns. He steered his team to a dominating second half, outscoring Chiefs 10-0.

The hosts just looked like a different team on Sunday. They came into the game as second to the last in carries per game with 22. Against the Chiefs, they carried the ball 40 times.

A testament game for Wilson?

Wilson has been a subject of criticism at the start of the season, but his splendid game against the number one team had many making a U-turn.

This is why the nine-time Pro Bowl feels the latest win differs from the other. He also thanked the home crowd for their support.

"This one meant a lot. Winning matters," he told reporters post-game.

"There has been a lot of tough times. The Chiefs is a really good football team, obviously. They were good champions. Everything else but we had a great plan. We do that. We come out and play great in front of our fans."
