The Ottawa Senators will try to regroup for their next NHL game on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Penguins, although they may be a man short. Is Erik Brannstrom playing vs. the Penguins?

The Senators lost to the New York Islanders, 3-2, on Thursday, October 26. They also saw the exit of defenseman Erik Brannstrom, who was stretchered out in the second period after taking a hit from Cal Clutterbuck at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, CBS Sports reported.

After being transported to a hospital for evaluation, the team announced the latest Erik Brannstrom injury update, stating that the 24-year-old player was alert and had movement in all his extremities.

"Obviously, it was emotional for the guys and everyone involved," Ottawa coach D.J. Smith said. "We're awaiting word. It looks like he's OK right now so it's positive, but we'll wait for more news."

The incident happened after Brannstrom skated with the puck through the neutral zone. After being checked hard by Clutterbuck, the 15th overall pick of the 2015 NHL Draft remained down after hitting his head on the ice.

No penalty was called on the play.

Clutterbuck is not known to be a dirty player. He gave his statement after the game via NHL.com.

"You just hate to see it, honestly," the 35-year-old right winger said. "I'm sick to my stomach about it. Was then. I still am now."

With Brannstrom set to undergo further testing, his availability in the Senators' next game against the Penguins on Sunday, October 29, remains unknown.
