To be hailed the world's best team in professional baseball is already enough motivation, but the Arizona Diamondbacks are digging deeper as they look to win their first World Series since 2001 against the Texas Rangers.

The 2023 National League Champions are coming to the series as underdogs, and that is being used by several of its players as motivation to be able to bring home the glory.

Paul Sewald is especially fired up after coming across comments from naysayers.

The pitcher took to X to warn fans not to count them out by posting photos about how their performance was a fluke. He also included a picture of the Michael Jordan meme where he said, "And I took that personally."

"Receipt season," he said.

To the uninitiated, that Jordan meme was from his documentary "The Last Dance." MJ backed his words up.

Can the D-backs do the same?

Manager Torey Lovullo has the same feeling

He took offense that their showdown with the Rangers is being called "Surprise Series," with them being regarded as a surprise finalist.

"We just put it on our list and keep those receipts and walk around with a little bit more of a chip on our shoulder," Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said Thursday.

"It gives you a little bit more motivation. And when you can get a little bit more, you take it."
