Robert Gobert of the Minnesota Timberwolves believes that French teammate Evan Fournier would be an asset to any team that can bring out the best in the 30-year-old swingman.
Fournier is currently with the New York Knicks, and the French player showcased his shooting prowess in their loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday, October 14, 121-112. Fournier finished with 15 points in 19 minutes of action, but Gobert believes he can do more, the New York Post reported.
"He's the best shooter on the team. He's the best shooter on the Knicks," the three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year stated. "But it's kind of weird when you end up on the bench and you don't really know why," he added.
In all, Gobert feels that Fournier is being disrespected with his role with the Knicks. Both were teammates with the French national team at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, and the 31-year-old feels that Fournier's opportunity will eventually come.
"He's a great teammate. He keeps putting in the work. And I know he always will. Good things will happen," the three-time NBA All-Star quipped.
Will Fournier be traded?
Evan Fournier expressed his wish to be traded in the offseason, but nothing has come close to that as of this writing, per Bleacher Report.
He is aware that if he stayed on in Gotham, it would be detrimental to his basketball career, when he spoke to Yann Ohnona of L'Equippe.
"If I stayed, it would be a disaster basketball-wise for my career. I can manage a year without playing. Two... that would be terrible," the 20th overall pick of the 2012 NBA Draft stated.
Although an Evan Fournier deal is far from materializing, the scenario could change once the 2023-24 NBA season starts - especially before the NBA trade deadline in February.
