The Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather Jr. rematch may have gotten a major update, with the Filipino boxing icon responding to a question raised to him at a recent event in Manila, Philippines.
Pacquiao was a special guest at a function organized by Times Education Group Australia. Reporters could not help but ask the eight-division world boxing champion if there is any truth to the Floyd Mayweather rematch, Rafael Bandayrel of PTV Sports Philippines reported.
"Just wait for the official announcement," Pacquiao said in Tagalog.
When asked when the announcement will be made, the boxer-senator simply responded by saying:
"Soon...soon."
A potential rematch between the two boxing icons has been going on for years. Both are officially retired, but this has not stopped them from entering the ring in exhibition games.
Fans will still pay to watch Mayweather-Pacquiao II
These exhibition fights have been branded nothing more as money-making schemes for both boxers, per Bleacher Report. Regardless, there are still people who would pay to watch Mayweather and Pacquiao display their boxing prowess.
Pacquiao's latest jab comes not long after it was revealed by a reliable source from the Manny Pacquiao camp that the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao rematch may happen if there are investors who will back up the clash.
Pacquiao, Mayweather will still earn millions
In their first encounter, Mayweather won via unanimous decision, but both fighters earned millions from the fight purse and pay-per-view buys, ESPN reported.
A Mayweather vs. Pacquiao rematch could generate millions, although unlikely in the same capacity as their first and official boxing encounter.
