The Los Angeles Angels are looking for a veteran manager, and Buck Showalter is undoubtedly a good fit for that vacancy after the Phil Nevin firing. However, there is more that can back the possibility of seeing the four-time Manager of the Year move to LA.
It has been learned that Angels team owner Arte Moreno also likes Buck Showalter, which will further raise the chances of seeing the 67-year-old manager at the Angels' bullpen, the New York Post reported.
Add the two facts together, and it makes sense for Showater to manage the Angels next MLB season.
The veteran manager has managed five teams and has a career .509 winning percentage over 22 seasons. Aside from that, he has already made six postseason appearances.
Further, Showalter is the right guy to take over, especially if Shohei Ohtani moves out of Los Angeles. The Japanese pitcher has not experienced a winning season with the Angels since 2015, and most see Shotime possibly considering teams such as the Texas Rangers or the Seattle Mariners, Sarah Valenzuela of the LA Times reported.
But then again, a Showalter coming could convince the 29-year-old to stay and see if the Angels' fortunes will turn around.
Buck Showalter is one step out of the New York Mets door after announcing earlier this month that the team has opted to move in a different direction.
"I was honored to get a chance to manage a second New York team and I'm proud of what the Mets did... I wish things could've gone better this season because Mets fans deserve that," Showalter said to reporters last October 2 via SNY.
