Connor Beddard of the Chicago Blackhawks is a highly-touted rookie who showed glimpses of what he can do on Tuesday, October 10. However, it was the following day when he made his mark, scoring the first NHL goal against the Boston Bruins.
The youngest player got his first official NHL score, a wraparound goal that allowed the Blackhawks to take a 1-0 lead. The Chicago Blackhawks shared a video of that sequence on Twitter.
Unfortunately, the Bruins went on to win against the Blackhawks, 3-1. Regardless, Beddard is living up to the hype and now has two points to his credit, USA Today reported.
The top pick of the NHL Draft this year also picked up an assist in his NHL debut on Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Chicago won that one, 4-2.
Best yet to come for Connor Beddard
Beddard admits that he continues to figure out how to get his offensive groove going, although that will come. For now, he seems content trying to be creative — something that will benefit his teammates.
"Felt like I created a good amount of chances for myself and a couple for others. Of course, I'm having a tough time putting it in the net these past four or five games (he scored one empty-net goal in four preseason games), but hopefully that comes. For me, it's just trying to create, and if I'm creating, you feel good," the 18-year-old said via NHL.com.
Beddard and the Blackhawks return to the ice on Saturday, October 14, at the Bell Centre when they face the Montreal Canadiens.
The Canadiens are -1.5 favorites to prevail over the underdog Blackhawks (+1.5) per DraftKings Sportsbook.
